Lipodystrophy
Views: 94

Lipodystrophy is a medical condition characterized by abnormal or degenerative conditions of the body's adipose tissue.

"Lipo" is Latin for "fat" and "dystrophy" is Latin for "abnormal or degenerative condition".

A more specific term, lipoatrophy is used when describing the loss of fat from one area (usually the face), and especially associated with the disease conditions or HIV and the taking of HIV medications.

Lipodystrophy is a loss of fat and wasting is the loss of muscle.  They are not the same thing.

AIDS wasting and lipodystrophy can both cause body shape changes.
