Organic Farming
Views: 104

Organic Farming is a system of environmentally friendly, sustainable agriculture.

Organic farming describes an agricultural management policy which is especially sustainable and environmentally friendly. Organic farming prohibits the use of chemical plant protectants, chemical fertilisers, genetic engineering, radiation or antibiotics. It applies crop rotation and avoids monocultures.

Worldwide, 750 farmers' associations in more than 100 nations follow organic management principles. In a directive in 1991, the European Union set regulations for organic farming and organic foods.

Since organic products may not contain traces of GMOs, co-existence is a very sensitive topic for organic farmers, who are usually opposed to any cultivation of GM crops.
