Good Cholesterol (HDL)

"Good Cholesterol" or HDL helps remove cholesterol from the body.  Good Cholesterol is also known as high-density lipoprotein cholesterol or HDL.

The main sources of cholesterol are our own bodies and the foods we eat.  Cholesterol can be found in the blood.  Doctors measure lipid levels in the blood.  They keep track of triglycerides, total cholesterol, and the two specific types of cholesterol:

  • High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), or "good cholesterol"
  • Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), or "bad cholesterol"
